Zoe Perry-Wood
Zoe Perry-Wood earned a BFA from Massachusetts College of Art and Design, an M.Ed from UMass Amherst, and a CAGS from UMass Boston. Zoe’s work is held in the permanent collection of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston as well as numerous private collections. Recent exhibitions include “(un)expected families” at MFA Boston, Forever Young at Newport Art Museum, Likeness at Clark University, Full Circle: 2018 Center Award Winners at Turchin Center for the Visual Arts at Appalachian State and a solo show at Harvard Medical School. Her work has been featured at The National Portrait Gallery in London for the Taylor Wesson Photographic Portrait Prize Exhibition, The Kinsey Institute at Indiana University, The PRC, CFP at Woodstock, Community College of Baltimore County, Danforth Museum, Fitchburg Art Museum, Griffin Museum, and a solo show at Gallery Kayafas. Recent awards include Directors Choice Award at Review Santa Fe 2018 the Artist of the Year Award three years running and Best in Show for the National Prize Show at the Cambridge Art Association.
In one focus of her work, Zoe investigates expressions of identity and documents mainstream groups as well as non-conforming subcultures. Her recent series include a twelve-year project making portraits of LGBTQIA youth at their Prom. The images in this body of work reveal the delicate balance between youth vulnerability versus defensive self-protection, as these youth grow up facing intolerance of their developing identities.
