May Sun
May Sun grew up in an environment that discouraged artistic pursuits, so she studied engineering. May emigrated to the US to complete a Chemical Engineering Ph.D. and now lives in Cambridge, MA. May always had her eyes on art; after intensive training in 2012 she served as a docent at the Boston Museum of Fine Arts (MFA) and continued volunteering there for a decade. She enrolled in art classes and trainings. May has been juried in exhibitions including the 2022 Cambridge Art Association Emerging Artist Exhibition, and in the Rockport and Concord Art Association member shows.
Through art making May expresses emotions and tells stories. May’s work originates from intuitive, subconscious data mixing with emotions, senses and experience. May finds a confluence where science, dance, and cultural and natural experiences meet. The end product is abstract and somewhat symbolic diffused within a juxtaposition of colors, textures, shapes and lines.
May wants her paintings to liberate forms and colors from existing associations so symbolic images parallel reality. Her aim is organically creating mysterious and interesting soul-sourced images to stimulate viewers’ imagination and creativity to promote wonder, positivity and fascination.
