Kathleen Bitetti
Kathleen Bitetti is a practicing visual artist, curator, and a public policy and advocacy expert based in Boston, MA. Research, unassuming and undetectable autobiographical references, historical references, contemporary socio-political issues, hand stenciling, and sewing are often the key elements that comprise the foundation she builds on for all of her artworks, installations, and projects.
Her most recent works have been historical-based mapping/performative public art projects. In May 2020, as part of the 2020 London Biennale-Masks, Mirages, and the Morphic Mirror, Bitetti completed Crossings-Walt Whitman Was Here (Boston). She left an artwork at a place in Boston where Walt Whitman lectured, worked, visited, and/or frequented. From February 9th to 18th, 2019, Bitetti was a visiting artist at Valletta Contemporary (Malta) and completed her project, Crossings: Massachusetts- Malta (2009-2019), that she began during her October 2009 residency at Gozo Contemporary (Malta). This project mapped historical events and sites that linked Malta and Massachusetts.
Her work is in the permanent collections of the National Library of Malta, the Nortorial Archives, the DeCordova Museum, and the New Bedford Art Museum. She is currently an artist in residence in the Alumni Program at Julie's Family Learning Program.
