August Sander (1876 - 1964)
August Sander (1876-1964), based in Cologne, Germany, photographed landscapes, nature, architecture, and commercial subjects, but he is best known for his portraits and is often described as βthe most important German portrait photographer of the early twentieth century.β He was part of a very active and cultured society, many of his friends were significant artists, all were deeply affected by the rise of the Nazi regime.
